Miss Barlow, Mrs Collins, Mrs Warriner, Miss Pate, Mrs Maybury, Miss Anna and Miss Walley welcome you to Leighton Academy Nursery!

About our Nursery:

We are a preschool Nursery class that takes children from 2 years until school age. Each child has a key worker to support them through their time with us.

Children are encouraged to take part in a variety of activities to prepare them for school. This includes phonics, story time, fine motor skills, group activities and much more. We aim to give all children a stimulating and safe environment for them to take part in new experiences and become confident, happy learners.

Our Nursery class has a indoor provision as well as a large outdoor area that children have access to, no matter the weather! We also have smaller rooms for their Key Worker groups and registration time. In our Nursery we are set up for learning through play, with a role play area, small world toys, reading area, construction, climbing equipment, mark making, creative area, bikes and much more. We add to our provision regularly based on the children's needs and interests.

A day in the Nursery:

A typical session in our Nursery looks like this:

8:45- Welcome children, register in our key worker groups, short adult led activity

9.15-Continuous provision
Children free flow between outdoors and indoors, whatever the weather!

10.00-Snack in our key worker groups and short adult led activity

10.30-Continuous provision
Children free flow between outdoors and indoors, whatever the weather!

11.15
Playdough disco

11.20-Outdoor play time before lunch

11.45-Home time

Within the session, we lead some activities for the children to join in, as well as leading interventions such as speech and language support.

The afternoon is a similar timetable to the morning. We focus on child initiated play, with some adult led activities within the provision to model important skills.

Summer Term:

Welcome to all our new starters, and welcome back to our children we had last term!

We're really excited for the warmer weather! We will be spending lots of time in our sand area beach and exploring the outdoor water play. Please can you send a named bottle of suncream and a sunhat for your children.

We have grown more confident this year with making choices in the provision. We're focusing now on tidying up, trying new areas and building on our imagination.

Our current topic for this term is people who help us. We're looking forward to visits from the police, a dentist, a vet, the education library and hopefully much more! We will be learning about people's roles and thinking about fun future jobs for our futures.

We're exploring a number a week this term, using the numberblocks as inspiration. This will lead to looking at counting in order, different features of shapes, subitising small numbers and adding simple amounts together.

The preschool children will be enjoying PE over at big school once a week on a Wednesday afternoon - please send us in suitable clothing for this.
