On 5th June 2018, Y2 - Y6 were treated to an exciting visit from a children's author - Eamonn Reilly. Eamonn is a natural showman and inspiring writer and he talked to the children about his work and gave them 'top tips' for writing stories of their own.

Eamonn set us the following writing challenges:

1. Write a story where the central character loses something.

2. Write a story where the central character faces a huge dilemma.

3. Draw and label a horrible potion and write a story to go with it.

4. Write a description piece with one of the following titles:

      * What would you like most in a best friend?

      * What is your secret den like?

5. Write a story with a cliffhanger that leaves readers desperate to find out what happens next.

We have decided to launch Eamonn's challenges as a writing competition in school! Children can choose one of 5 challenges and write their entry at home. Entries should be handed to Mrs Thompson no later than 3.15pm on Friday 29th June. Certificates for all entries and prizes will be awarded in a special assembly on Tuesday 3rd July 2018 where some of the winning pieces will be shared with the whole school.

If your child would like to purchase copies of Eamon's books, please see the letter saved in the virtual office. More information about Eamon's work can be found at

Good luck and get writing!

Mrs Thompson :)
