Summer Term

This term we will be learning all about summer and mini-beasts.

We will be going on lots of summer walks around nursery and school, observing all the changes that take place during the summer season.

We will be talking about the importance of looking after our bodies in the warmer weather.

Also we wil be going on lots of bug hunts and finding out lots of interesing facts.

*Sun hats and a high factor sun cream are also recommended (please ensure everything is named). Also please provide your child with a labelled water bottle.

German with Mr Pearson - Monday morning. We will be learning new words and songs to do with summer.

PE with Mrs Holland - Monday afternoon - No PE kit is required for this. We ask if you could dress your child in suitable clothing for moving around in lots of different ways in the school hall and using apparatus.

We also ask if you could get your child to practice at home putting on and taking off their shoes and socks independantly.

Talk for Writing - This half term, we will be doing lots of fun and exciting activities around the following book - The 3 Billy Goats Gruff.

We will read the book of theBilly Goats Gruff many times over the half term to familiarise the children with the story. We will also use story maps alongside retelling the story in our own words and use props such as masks to act it out.

The children will learn the structure of the book, what happens at the beginning, middle and end of the story. The children will be encouraged to join in with the repeated phrases from the book.

We will also be looking at -

-front and back covers of books

-the title of the book

-the difference between an autor and illustrator

-the blurb

- the differnce between words and pictures in books

Transition - We will be discussing the upcoming transition to school for our older children and helping them prepare for their next step.

Things to do at home and on the way home from nursery

-Choose a colour and see how many things you can find on the way home from nursery or in the garden of the colour.

-Look at numbers in the environment (house numbers, car number plates etc). Ask your child to identify the number.

-Look at writing you can see in the environment (road names, posters, shop signs etc). Why are they there? what they say.

-When you are out walking look at the flowers, trees and discuss what happens to them in summer months, what they need to grow.

-Look out for any nests up high in the trees, spiders webs, snail trails.

* Please email your child’s key worker with any photos or short written observations of you and your child doing any activities at home or out and about. This is a great way for us learn more about your child and their interests outside of nursery.
