Welcome to 2M.

Welcome to Year 2. We have a very exciting term ahead and here is some information to guide you through our busy autumn.

In accordance with our homework policy, you need to achieve a Mathletics certificate each week (the equivalent of a 1000 points). Tasks are allocated each week and are linked to our learning in school. Mathletics certificates are printed out before achievement assembly (usually on a Friday morning) so you can show them off to your friends and the rest of the school!

Please take time to read with your grown-up each night - if this is recorded in your reading journal you will recieve a 'Read at Home' dojo and 50 of these mean it's certificate time! It's okay if your grown-up would like to read to you for a change - this still counts but remember to talk about what you have read together and ask/answer lots of questions.

We have P.E. every Friday afternoon but would like you to bring your kit with you at the beginning of each week (warmer layers are recommended as Winter draws in particularly as P.E. is outside). It is especially important to ensure you bring your water bottle every day so you can stay hydrated!

We are learning about the significance of the Great Fire of London and don't forget our trip will be on 22nd November (please see the letter for details). In our geography topic we will look at countries within the UK and across the world.

Materials and their properties, will be our scientific focus and we shall be learning some new skills along the way including; the way we identify and compare the suitability of a variety of everyday materials, including wood, metal, plastic, glass, brick, rock, paper and cardboard for particular uses and will be finding out how the shapes of solid objects made from some materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching.

In computing we are building on our online safety skills and looking at spreadsheets for the first time using our Purple Mash software - remember you can access the activities at home too if you would like to!

L. S. Lowry is our artist of choice this term and we shall be linking our artwork with our historical topic of London whilst experimenting with painting, colour, effect and scale skills.

Christmas Songs

Below are the links to the Christmas songs we will be performing at our Christmas Singalong.

1. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

2.  Jingle Bell Rock

3.  Holly Jolly Christmas

4. Rocking around the Christmas Tree

5. We wish you a Merry Chrismas

Thank you for your continued support.
