Miss Shaw

Welcome to 1HS!

Our Class Councillor...

Homework

In Year 1 your child will be expected to achieve a Mathletics certificate every week. Tasks and new learning will be updated by the class teacher on a Monday morning, this will relate to the learning taking place in school that week. Mathletics certificates will be printed out before achievement assembly each week.

May we remind you of the importance of taking time to read with your child each night. This may include your child reading their school book to you but it may also be you reading a book to your child, both of these experiences are equally as important. 'Book Talk' is really valuable at this point so encouraging your child to talk about what they have read or asking them questions about what they have read is really useful.

PE

PE will take place on a Thursday this half term so please ensure that your child brings their PE kit them at the beginning of each week. Again, please ensure that ALL kits are named.

This half term the focus in PE will be Gymnastics.

Water Bottles and Snack

Please send your child to school with a water bottle. Children are not entitiled to free milk in Year 1 so it is really important that they have their own water bottle to drink throughout the day.

We will continue to provide snack for the children this year. We continue to ask for a contribution to cover the cost of the fruit. Payments can be made to your child's class teacher either half-termly or termly. These costs are listed below (please note that if we are unable to cover the cost of the fruit, we will no longer be able to provide your child with fruit each day).

Half term = £10

Termly = £20

What we are learning about:

We have a very excting half term ahead of us in Year 1! The topic for this half term is 'Which House Would You Choose?' In Literacy we will be using 'Talk for Writing' to learn the story of 'The Magic Porridge Pot'. We will learn to retell the story verbally and we might even have a go at making our very own porridge! In Maths we will continue to consolidate our understanding of the number system up to 20. In Science we will be learning about different materials. We will be using this to learn about different homes and why certain materials might be used for different parts of houses. In Art, Mrs Cutler will be exploring Fairytale Dwellings and the children will be designing their own dream home. In Geography, we will be looking homes around the World and comparing houses from different countries to those in Crewe. We shall also be going on a local area walk to discover the types of homes people live in near us.
